My PERSONAL Computer

SECURITY - General

Computers and diskettes often hold a considerable amount of CONFIDENTIAL passwords, memos, financial information, personal details (of you and your friends), etc., which should be protected from corruption, loss or disclosure.

Potentially the loss of a computer or access to the data/processing provided by same, causes serious disruption (and a lot of personal anguish).

Physical Security

Ensure the physical security of all computers, diskettes/CDs (including software) and printouts.

For some that may just require locking the front door, but for others it may require a lock on the bedroom/study door to keep out those "little" fingers or prying eyes.

Logical Security

To improve the security of your computer implement the practice of 'password' protecting all computers as follows:

BIOS Password (when starting/booting the computer)

Screensaver Password, screensaver to have maximum time of 5 minutes

Screensaver to be invoked by Windows 'startup'

This all sounds easy - well it is - and as you read the other pages you may get an insight into how you can do it better.
